What auto insurance is required in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is not one of the larger states, being 32nd, but when it comes to miles of roads, it is 19th with 250,000. It is a great place to ramble along the back roads and enjoy the scenery and history. Like most other states, Pennsylvania does mandate basic insurance coverage. If you live in or near Milford, PA, the RH Worthington Group is an independent agency that works for our clients. We make sure you have the right coverage for your needs and are in compliance with the law.

You are required to have auto liability insurance. In Pennsylvania, it is 15/30/5. This is fundamental coverage, with $15,000 injury coverage for a single person maxing out at $30,000 per accident. Property damage is only $5,000. If you drive without auto insurance, you may be liable for the following penalties:

  • A fine of at least $300
  • Your license is suspended for 3 months.
  • A loss of your vehicle registration for 3 months
  • A fee to get your license back
  • A fee to get your vehicle registration back

If your vehicle has an auto loan or is leased, there are other insurance requirements. The vehicle itself needs to be protected with comprehensive and collision coverage.

But is the required insurance enough coverage to protect you? The simple answer is no. The liability insurance requirements are very low. The $5,000 property damage will leave you paying a lot of money out of pocket if you are the responsible party in an accident with anything but an old clunker.

Talking to an insurance agent you trust can help make sure you are adequately protected. At RH Worthington Group in Milford, PA, we take the time to get to know our clients and make sure they have all the protection they need. Give us a call to set up an appointment for a no-obligation quote.
